I'm renaming and moving the blog because 1. I think the header image of a spectacular vista is a bit overplayed, and 2. Right, so the title is derived from my last name, Montgomery. I still like the wordplay, in that the blog was about my travels - my traverses. But it sounds a bit too grandiose, too inflated. My experience of the outdoors isn't that of some hero conquering the wilds, but a more complex one of smaller triumphs, struggles, and a certain degree of absurdity.
I plan to post there more often, not just with trip reports, but also with vignettes reflecting on certain aspects of hiking and other forms of people-powered travel. I hope that it will add to the ongoing conversation about why some of us leave the comforts of cities and towns to seek slow, difficult, but satisfyingly simple travel over this great creation.
